  • Generalist $35-$45

    1. Role Overview

Mercor is seeking generalist experts to support a large-scale project with a leading AI research partner. The goal is to create and refine a diverse dataset of human-aligned tasks for supervised fine-tuning (SFT) of frontier models. Generalists will contribute by generating realistic prompts, evaluating AI outputs, and iterating on responses to ensure quality and domain relevance. This is a short-term, project-based opportunity ideal for professionals with broad analytical capabilities and writing skills.

    2. Key Responsibilities

    • Create base prompts across a range of generalist topics
    • Review and revise AI-generated responses for clarity, accuracy, and alignment with human reasoning
    • Develop prompt-response iterations using variations in length, style, and system prompts
    • Contribute to benchmarking efforts by identifying failure points in model responses
    • Apply consistent quality standards across diverse content types (e.g., summaries, Q&A, synthesis tasks)

    3. Ideal Qualifications

    • 2+ years of experience in research, education, writing, editing, or adjacent analytical fields
    • Proven ability to communicate complex topics clearly and concisely
    • Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills
    • Comfort working independently with evolving task guidelines
    • Familiarity with LLMs or AI-assisted writing tools is a plus

    4. More About the Opportunity

    • Remote and asynchronous — set your own schedule
    • Expected commitment: 10–25 hours/week
    • Project duration: ~2 weeks with potential for extension
    • Flexible task structure with batch-based assignments

    5. Compensation & Contract Terms

    • $35-45/hour, with possibility of bonuses for strong performance and efficiency
    • Paid weekly via Stripe Connect
    • You’ll be classified as an independent contractor

    6. Application Process

    • Submit your resume to get started
    • Complete a brief intake form to outline your expertise

  • What Are AI Red Teaming Jobs? Tasks, Pay, and How to Get Started

AI Red Teaming Jobs – Overview

AI red teaming jobs are one of the most advanced and highest-paying types of AI training work.

In red teaming, humans intentionally test AI systems to identify weaknesses, unsafe behavior, bias, or potential misuse scenarios.
The goal is not to improve quality, but to stress-test AI systems before they are deployed.

These roles are more selective and usually offered only to experienced AI trainers.

    What Is AI Red Teaming?

AI red teaming is the process of deliberately trying to “break” or exploit an AI system in controlled environments.

Instead of following normal use cases, red teamers:

    • test edge cases
    • probe unsafe behaviors
    • attempt policy violations
    • identify failure modes

This helps AI developers fix problems before systems reach the public.

    What Tasks Do You Perform?

Typical AI red teaming tasks include:

    • Attempting to generate disallowed or unsafe outputs
    • Testing how AI handles harmful or misleading prompts
    • Identifying bias, hallucinations, or security risks
    • Exploring edge cases and unusual scenarios
    • Writing detailed reports explaining failures

Tasks often require creativity and deep reasoning rather than speed.

How Much Do AI Red Teaming Jobs Pay?

AI red teaming roles are among the highest-paid AI training jobs.

    Typical pay ranges:

    • $25 – $40 per hour for standard red teaming tasks
    • $40 – $60+ per hour for specialized or expert-level projects

    Some contracts may offer:

    • fixed project-based payments
    • long-term engagements
    • bonus incentives for high-impact findings

    📌 Important:
These roles are limited and competitive. Availability is lower than basic AI training work.

Who Are AI Red Teaming Jobs For?

AI red teaming jobs are ideal for:

    • Experienced AI training workers
    • Analysts and researchers
    • Advanced freelancers
    • People with strong critical and ethical reasoning skills

    Many platforms require:

    • previous AI training experience
    • high accuracy scores
    • passing advanced qualification tests

Red teaming is not typically beginner-friendly.

    Skills Required

To succeed in AI red teaming, you usually need:

    • Advanced critical thinking
    • Creativity and curiosity
    • Strong understanding of AI limitations
    • Ability to document findings clearly
    • Awareness of ethics and safety issues

Technical background can help, but it is not always required.

Platforms That Offer AI Red Teaming Jobs

AI red teaming work is usually offered by:

    • Scale AI (advanced projects)
    • Specialized AI research vendors
    • Enterprise AI safety teams
    • Selected projects on Remotasks or similar platforms

Access is often invite-only or requires strong prior performance.

Is AI Red Teaming Worth It?

For qualified workers, AI red teaming can be extremely rewarding.

    Pros:

    • Highest pay among AI training roles
    • Interesting and intellectually challenging work
    • Strong demand from AI companies

    Cons:

    • Limited availability
    • High expectations and strict reviews
    • Not suitable for beginners

Red teaming is best viewed as a long-term goal within AI training careers.

    Final Thoughts

AI red teaming jobs play a crucial role in making artificial intelligence safer and more reliable.

While not accessible to everyone, they represent the top tier of AI training work in terms of responsibility, skill, and compensation.

Many red teamers started with simpler roles like data annotation or response evaluation before progressing to advanced safety-focused tasks.
